Employees who work the holiday shifts earn special appreciation - Newscenter1.tv

RAPID CITY, S.D. — As millions of Americans enjoy their time at home with family, Christmas Day, a special thanks is given to public safety and other employees who are tasked with working holiday shifts.

Law enforcement, hospitals, airports and more are open and working to serve the general public. They might not have the whole day to spend with family, but they continue to work for the well-being of every citizen.

Police remain on duty during holiday hours.

“It’s really important for us to be diligent in our work,” says Rapid City Police Officer Jack DiPasquale. “To make sure that everyone who’s traveling and seeing families stays safe because the last thing we want is for any sort of tragedy to happen on a special, special day.”

In times of illness or health emergency – even on Christmas and Christmas Eve – Regional Health in Rapid City is open and prepared to care for patients.

“Of course everyone wants to be home with their families on these days,” says Regional Health Hospital Coordinator Ace Berry. “But we still have patients to treat in the community and I guess its still, still nice to come here and help these patients because they want to be home as well . If we can provide them the best care that we can it certainly takes a little bit of the burden off of them being hospitalized  on Christmas.”

During holidays, if you happen to be out and about enjoying amenities, thank those employees.
