Orland wrestling takes down Will C. Wood to earn second dual win | Local roundup - Chico Enterprise-Record

The Orland High boys wrestling team earned its second win of the year with a 42-33 win over Will C. Wood High of Vacaville Friday night at home.

Liam Nelson won the 113-pound division with a technical fall over Liam Lafleur. Rocco Becerra pinned Ethan Rosa to take the 120 bout for Orland.

Alex Dominguez (132) defeated Nathan Nordin with a 6-0 decision, Cameron Garrison (138) pinned William Fisher and Brayden Schumann (152) defeated Christian Maldonado on a 5-2 decision.

Benicio Martinez (182), Ben Fernandez (195) and Joel Lopez (220) all won by pinfall for Orland.

The Trojans (2-0) host the annual Doc Petersen wrestling tournament on Saturday, which will feature 29 boys and girls wrestling teams.

Prep boys basketball

Encinal 56, Chico 49: Quentin Thomas led the Panthers with 18 points, six rebounds in the Novato tournament. Phoenix Driscoll added 13 points and seven rebounds while Alex Padilla added 10.

Chico (1-3) wraps up the consolation bracket at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Oroville 56, Dixon 38: The Tigers took third place in the Pierce tournament. Omar Osby led with 17 points while Troy Moench tallied eight points.

Osby earned all-tournament honors for the Tigers.

Oroville (3-1) will face Anderson at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Ron Pritchard Invitational.

Las Plumas 67, San Juan 50: Jaden Burgess led the Thunderbirds with 17 points in the Wheatland tournament.

LP (2-1) faces Hamilton at 2 p.m. Saturday in the consolation final.

Colusa 67, Orland 54: The Trojans fell in the consolation final of the Pierce tournament despite five players scoring in double figures.

Austin Burreson led Orland with 13 points while Javier Huerta, Hunter Foster, Evven Orozco and Luis Nunes each added 10 points.

Orland (1-3) hosts Corning at 7 p.m. Dec. 17.

Prep girls basketball

Pleasant Valley 63, Bradshaw Christian 13: Karli Lindquist led the Vikings with 14 points and Becky Horne added 12 during the Davis tournament.

PV (1-2) will either face Shasta or Oakmont in the consolation final at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Durham 46, Colusa 40: Durham (3-0) topped tournament host Colusa behind Karena Bryant’s 16 points and Alison Smith’s 10 points.

Hamilton 53, Williams 14: Berenize Trujillo-Mendoza led the Braves with 15 points in the Biggs tournament. Ally Ponke added 13 points. Maddy Pankratz chipped in eight points.

Hamilton (1-1) faces Loyalton at 1:30 p.m. for the tournament championship Saturday.

Orland 32, Anderson 24: Orland beat Anderson in the Anderson Tipoff Classic.

The Trojans were led by 11 points by senior Jugdeep Thiara. Regan Cauthon added 10 points for Orland (1-2), in their first victory of the season for the Trojans.

Prep girls soccer

Chico at Inderkum tournament: The Panthers defeated Lincoln 3-2 to open the tournament, then topped Natomas 6-0 in the second game.

Karina Diaz, Alyssa Bloxham and Priscilla Ward scored while Riley Freeman and Olivia Wilson recorded assists against Lincoln.

Keeper Heather Lockard had two saves.

In the win over Natomas, Bloxham and Diaz led with two goals apiece. Ward and Wilson each scored while Lockard had one save.

Chico (4-0) will play Center High at 2:15 p.m. Saturday.

Pleasant Valley at Miner’s Classic: The Vikings won 7-0 over Golden Sierra in Nevada Union.

Rylee Jellison recorded a hat trick with three goals. Faylinn Berkotwitz, Hannah Sillers, Jillian Weber and Erica Simas each scored one goal. Ashlin Stevens had two assists while Simas and Sillars each had one assist.

Keeper Annika Gnesda had two saves.

The Vikings won their second game 3-0 over host Nevada Union. Jellison had two goals, Kyler Garner had one goal, Berkowitz, Anna Converse and Chloe Haun each had an assist. Gnesda made one save to preserve the shutout.

Pleasant Valley (2-1) continues tourney play to face University Prep at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

Feather River soccer tournament: Corning High defeated Colusa 5-0 in the first game of the day, then beat Live Oak 7-1 in the second game.

No additional stats were provided by Corning.

Tournament play continues Saturday at both Riverbend Park and Harrison Stadium.

Prep boys soccer

Gridley 4, Willows 1: Alex Mendieta, Ivan Escalante, Kevin Martinez and Freddy Anguiano each scored for the Bulldogs. Martinez, Alex Anguiano, Freddy Anguiano and Medieta each tallied an assist.

Willows’ lone goal was scored by Jesus Garcia on an assist by Miguel Rojo. Keeper Jael Bibriesca made six saves for the Honkers.

Gridley (3-2) hosts Hamilton at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. Willows (1-2) plays at Durham at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

College men’s basketball

Butte 68, Cuesta 56: The Roadrunners won their first game of the Cabrillo Classic. Noah Zoppi, Marquise Nelloms and Shakwon Lewis each had 14 points. Eric Spencer contributed 10 points for Butte.

Butte (7-2) will compete in the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday against either Cabrillo or San Mateo.

College women’s basketball

Diablo Valley College 86, Butte 78 (OT): Tied 31-all at halftime, the Roadrunners made a late charge to send the game into overtime.

Aleia Milano buried a 3-pointer to give Butte the lead with 2:57 left in the game.

Butte (7-3) faces Merit College at 3 p.m. Saturday at Butte College.
