The rumors are true: Lyft and Chase are partnering up to give riders Ultimate Rewards points. As of January 12, Traveler-favorite Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders will get 10 times the points on rides. Lyft riders with Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire, Ink Preferred, and Ink Plus can can earn five times points on Lyft rides. Those with Freedom, Freedom Student, Freedom Unlimited, or Ink, Ink Cash, Ink Business, and Ink Unlimited, will get 5 percent cash back on Lyft rides.

The five- and 10-times points partnership nets out at one Ultimate Rewards point per dollar spent on a ride, so Reserve cardholders heading, say, to JFK airport from Manhattan can earn some 800-plus points for an $80 fare.

"We really feel like Chase is one of the premiere partners in the travel space because of the benefits they already provide their cardmembers," Heather Freeland, Lyft’s vice president of marketing, exclusively confirmed with Traveler. "We felt like it was a great compliment to the partnerships we already have in the travel space and builds nicely on the partners we already have like Hilton, Delta, and Disney,"

The real perk here is that you can now triple dip on every single Lyft ride. "It really accelerates the benefits," Freeland says. On each Lyft ride, you can earn Hilton Honors points, Delta SkyMiles, and Chase Ultimate Rewards points at the same time. All you have to do to start earning Ultimate Rewards points is make your Chase Freedom, Ink, Sapphire Preferred, or Sapphire Reserve card your default payment. (Note: the five- and 10-times points earning here supersedes Chase's usual three-times points earning on transportation.)

"What's great about the Delta, Hilton, and Disney partnerships is that they're unique to certain verticals: airlines, hotels, and resorts respectively. But the Chase partnership really extends things across all travel verticals," Freeland says.

Lyft isn't the first rideshare company to partner with a credit card company—AmEx Platinum cardholders receive $15 to $20 in Uber Cash for rides each month—but the rides-for-points system is only in play at Lyft. (You can also earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points on bike and scooter trips, too, not just car rides.)

Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders are getting an additional benefit from the partnership, too, on top of the $100 credit toward Global Entry and TSA PreCheck, $300 travel credit, and Priority Pass membership included. A complimentary year of Lyft Pink access is being added to the benefit roster, which means 15 percent off all Lyft car rides, free bike and scooter trips, and—maybe most importantl—priority airport pickup, among other perks.

But will this new Lyft partnership be enough for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders to pony up another $100 on top of the already steep $450 annual fee? That's yet to be determined, as rumors fly within points and miles circles (check the comments section of Doctor of Credit to see for yourself) about a soon-to-be-announced $550 annual fee for the top travel credit card.
